One can consider bariatric surgery as an effective weight loss option if a person has any of the following conditions:
- BMI > 32.5 with co-morbid disease (hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, joint problems, reflux)
- BMI > 35 without co-morbid disease
- BMI > 30 and have tried several weight loss methods over a period of one year
- Are between 16 and 60 years old
- Unable to reduce weight under a medically supervised program
- Do not suffer from depression.
- Donot excessively consume alcohal
Before you have weight loss surgery, you will go through an evaluation process that includes counseling and various tests. After going through ones history and various tests surgeon decide which surgical procedure is best for you. there are different type of surgical procedures which include:
- Laparoscopic Sleeve gastrectomy (to reduce the amount of food one can eat.)
- Duodenal Switch
- Gastric By Pass ( different types) (reduce the calories the body can absorb.)
- Gastric Ileal Interposition
